Halloween Fancy Dress Duathlon / 5k run / Kids run

Thanks to everyone who came along and supported our Fancy Dress duathlon / Fun run last Saturday. Somebody must have been owed a few favours from up above because the weather was perfect. We had about 35 adults take part in the duathlon with about 30 kids in the fun run. Also loads of parents/spectators/marshals from our own club, Carrick Tri club, friends, family and locals so was very entertaining for everyone.

We raised over €300 to be split between Downsyndrome Ireland & the new Fenor playground.

If there was a prize for best costumes / best effort it would be a tie between Olive O'Brien & Vinny Power (plus Olive's nieces) as Zombie bride and groom or Kieran Eaton, Pauline & Family for the effort they went to. They have raised the bar for next year.

Great night out afterwards also, with 25 people at bowling and about 40 in Three Shippes later on.
Competition was fierce at bowling not only between lane members but between spouses.
The highest overall score of the night went to Shane S. with 128 (but he does get to practice regularly)
Next were Marc O'C (122) Derek Barrett (112) Vinnie Power (110) & Kieran Eaton (103). Vinnie, Marc & Kieran happen to be in the same lane so I reckon they must have had some sort of advantage there...
Caroline Russell was the dark horse with 6th highest score of 91.

As regards the "unofficial spouse competition", Rachel thrashed Stefan, Caroline thrashed Ned & Nicola thrashed Dots.
(we won't mention the females who got slightly thrashed!)

Hi All,

After the success of last year's Fancy dress duathlon / 5k run / kids Fun run, we hope there will be another good turnout for it this year on Sat. 30th October. As you can see from the poster on the home page, we hope that people will come along in Fancy dress for the laugh but if you are shy or want to take the race seriously you can participate in proper sports/tri gear. Will also have a 1.5k Fun run/walk for kids and parents etc. (doesn't have to be halloween theme) which will take place when everyone else has gone off on their bikes.

Last year we had Superheroes of all kinds, clowns, roman centurians, King Henry VIII, witches (some who cycled a tandem), princesses, a nun (who a motorist thought was real!) and lots more. Tom Casey kept everyone entertained with his bag-pipes! (Photos on Facebook - see 1st album)

We had about 60 participants in total from our own club, Carrick Tri club, friends and fellow athletes and raised 500euro for the South Tipperary Hospice.
There were a few people (chickens!!!) who didn't dress up and who wished they had once they saw everyone else in their outfits so there is no excuse this year.
Either way, it will be a fun training session and a great kickstart to the winter season. Entry fee is by way of donation to a chartity (to be decided). All friends and family and kids welcome to take part.
Starts at 10.30am in Fenor.

Then, later on that evening we will have our club night out. Still working on the final details so will let ye know next week.

If anyone doesn't want to participate or is injured and doesn't want to miss out on all the fun, we will need a few people to volunteer to marshal on the day, (also an excuse to dress up in fancy dress)
