Metric Ironman Training Day
Just floating a suggestion for discussion, following on from the positive response the 'training' half-iron in May received.
One of the training suggestions I've seen as a 'big day' is the notion of a metric IM - that is, do all the mile distances as kilometres. So, 2.4km swim, 112km cycle, 26km run (0.2km extra on run optional!!).
For those wedded to the Queen's statute (Aerohead), that reads 1.5 mi / 70 mi / 16mi, more or less. I suppose essentially you're doing a 5/8 Iron instead of half iron.
I imagine that would push into June, which is also race season, so the cons might well outweigh the pros. Any thoughts out there?

Re: Metric Ironman Training Day
Just resurrecting the thread to see if there's any interest out there. I felt I got an awful lot out of the half-iron day, and wouldn't mind working this one in...
Possible date - 20th June; day after Dunmore. None of us are racing that day (I believe), so might be a window of opportunity.
Thoughts?

Sounds good Marco. I'd definitely be interested if we can get a crowd together.

I'd be interested.
Can we do a sea swim? Will the buoys still be out from Dunmore, we could do three laps.

There's been some interest. I'll take a look at some possible routes, pop them up, and we'll see what folk think.

Just a thought but if the whole organising of this thing is going to be a problem maybe we could look at just doing the bike section followed by the run. We could even look at doing it from say Slatts place as I know he has plenty of room for for the parking and bike set up - out back????
I'm kind of leaning this way myself.

Re: Metric Ironman Training Day
Kinda getting cold feet about this myself - looking at the calendar, and I'm running out of places I can fit in long bikes. I also have a feeling it might knock me for six, which might be a week lost. This, of course, might all be down to the fact that I'm a big girl's blouse....

Your all still welcome out to drink cans and watch the hurling & world cup. We can even get Dillon on skype for the limerick match
