Exciting Carrick Duathlon (Rathgormack)
Congrats to all 9 club members who took on the challenge of Carrick Duathlon yesterday.
Yesterdays race showed us that there is now another discipline in Duathlon racing that is just as important as the run, cycle or transition..Map reading!
21 competitors took a wrong turn (a right hand turn on a course that was all left, I might add). This brought them up a long steep hill and back down the other side. They then had to return back up that same hill and back to where they went wrong and finish the run as usual.
Almost 10k later they arrived back into Transition looking a little worse for wear.
They had a lot of ground to make up but, credit to them all, they did not give up and treated it like the race they were in.
In that group were a few of our own club members..Barry Lambe, John McDonald, Kyle Barrett & Mark Power.
Ahead of them were Derek Nolan, Norma Goggin, Martin Flynn, Shane McDonagh & Owen Byrne.
Derek put in a great effort to come back 1st on the bike and stayed in this position to win the race in 1.18.56.
Norma finished 2nd lady overall in 1.35.13.
Barry did really well to fight his way back to 8th place overall, 2nd place of the "longer 1st run peope"!
1 Derek Nolan: 01:18:56
7 Owen Byrne: 01:24:39
8 Barry Lambe: 01:25:08*
14 Martin Flynn: 01:27:44
20 john mc Donald: 01:30:14*
