Monday night Sea swims - Dunmore East
We will be swimming in the sea in Dunmore East from next Bank Holiday Monday onwards (till Sept). Next Monday we will meet at Councillors car park at the earlier time of 5pm (as most people are off work) and every other Monday we will meet at 6.30pm.
Try to get there maybe 10mins before hand each week to allow time to sign on, put on wetsuit and have the usual chat. We aim to be in the water for 6.40pm at the latest. (in the water for 5.10pm the 1st night)
Going by previous years, there may to up to 40 of us swimming on a night (including the Carrick Tri Club) and we will also have a water safety person (Sheila) out on the water on a board to keep an eye on us most nights. If anyone has any reservations or nerves any night, just have a word with Sheila and she will keep an eye on you.
Also, we don't let the rain put us off a swim (as you will be getting wet anyway!) If it's very foggy and visibility is poor any night we will cancel the swim for safety reasons.
We will break the group into smaller groups each night with each group deciding their own distance. Some will be happy to swim from the beach to Peig's rock and back (approx 500m), maybe do it twice if more confident. Others will swim towards the harbour, around some bouys and back (approx 1000m), others will do that twice. Nobody will be left on their own as such, there should always be someone close by.
The water will be cold for the 1st few weeks so be prepared! (we have had a few scared reports already). The swims may be very short.... Wear 2 swim hats for extra warmth and protection.
Bring plenty of warm clothes and a hat to put on after the swim, maybe even a hot drink as it will take a while to warm back up.
Hope to see everyone there next week.
