Training Half-Iron
Resurrecting this one from last year. I got a lot out of this last year; it gave me a clear target in training, and told me a lot about where I was. So putting it out there again - any interest?
Looking at the TI calendar - maybe Sat. 14th May? Same day as the half-iron up in Westmeath - don't know if anyone was planning on racing that one
Suggestions? Thoughts?

I agree Marco, it was a good confidence builder last year. Brother's stag is on the 14th so I can't make it that day. Don't think we'll ever find a day to suit everyone though!

I have signed up for Westmeath. This may not suit Regensbergers though. I know Roth is downhill so really I have less training to do than you 'IRONMEN'

Definitely on to do the training day if for no other reason than to keep some of the 2011 Ironman competitors on there toes!!

Just looking at training plan and was thinking Weekend before our club triathlon would suit me, that's June 11th/12th. How about it? Or is this too close to the date of the non Regensburgers?

Well lads,
Just looking at the dates and I think the Dunmore 3.8 swim is on Sat 11th.
Just thought some off ye Ironmen might want to do this one.

Re: Training Half-Iron
At the Ironman chat last week, I think the weekend between Joey H & Valentia suited most people - Sat 15th May or Sun 16th May. That would allow the earlier dated Ironmen (Austria, Roth) to take part also.
We were to check with Stephen if we can get the pool early in the morn on either of these dates.... (Consider yourself asked Stephen..)
How many are interested? Last year we had the use of 3 lanes of Splashworld with 3-4 people per lane. The cycle went from Tramore - Orchardstown (via back road) - Kilmeaden - over Fiddown bridge- Carrick - Lemybrien - back to Orchardstown - Tramore.
The run went from Tramore to Superquin and back.

Sat 14th May is all good..Ill open up at 8 (and yes ill be on time, this time), door locked for 8.10, everyone starts swimming at 8.15, should all be finished by 9..This time the bikes will not be left in reception while we're swimming, but we have the option of leaving them in the back studio (were pilaties is) and going out the back exit doors..

Re: Training Half-Iron
I'm not going to be able to do the half iron the planned weekend so if anyone is interested in doing it in june give me a shout.
Could be more informal type thing than planned one - swim in splash world during lane swim time (9-10), cycle and run from my place or the car park.
I'm open to suggestion.....

May date doesn't suit me either so I'd be up for it anyway, unless I end up doing double olympic in Athy....

Re: Training Half-Iron
June suits me better as well. I think we got ourselves a posse.... (more posie than posse, I'm afraid - less useful for tracking renegades; more useful for border planting...)

Re: Training Half-Iron
So I'm proposing the weekend of June 11th/12th for half ironman training date.
Which suits people best the Satyrday or the Sunday? I don't mind either but would prefer the Saturday 11th, have Sunday and Monday to recover before starting training Tuesday again.
Swim options - Dunmore, Splashworld or Kingfisher.
I've a mate who I reckon I can rope in to do canoe if we go with the open water option.
Although it'd probably be just as well to do the same course we did last year from Splashworold.
Can people put their tuppence worth in so that we can finalise the matter and have something to aim for.
Hopefully this weekend will suit most. As far as i know, there's not many racing that weekend and our club tri is on the following weekend.
Frrrp etc.

Sorry I should have stated, while this date obviously suits the Regensburgers best, anybody who wants to take part in all or part of is welcome to....

Re: Training Half-Iron
I'm happy enough to go with saturday the 11th
The reason I proposed the following sunday was we would be doing nothing on the day of our triathlon anyway (apart from marshalling) but I don't mind either way
I reckon we would be better off doing swim in a pool for the sake of bike storage etc.
I'm not doing it if its windy though!

Re: Training Half-Iron
"official" half iron tomorrow has been cancelled..few of us still plan on doing an informal run through if anybody wants to come along..I'll be opening the pool @8am (cost 5Euro for everyone, to splashworld) and will lock the doors @8.15..swim for 45 odd mins (reguardless of distance) then all start the bike together when ready. 56miles sounds good but see what happens..run from sworld car park..i wouldn't be doing the run so might tag on a bit more at the end of the bike..

Re: Training Half-Iron
The Big Half.
I hope the lads dont mind me posting I heard Ger Hearne did his half Friday
While other Ironmen were in bed or on a drunken stupor 3 brave souls bared the pretty mild but windy weather and tepid pool conditions. Stephen, Kyle, and myself. The swim well with no counters Stephen swam further, I may have lost 100m somewhere and Kyle was buzzing from the sea swim and run the night before. The 2km the furthest he had ever swum and still swam continuously till I thought I was finished and got out.
The T1 was not fast. Strange to here Stephen forgot his water bottles and had to cycle home for them. We decided to keep the cycle handy. Stephen informing me that he didn’t want to cycle anywhere near me or the TT bike. Which took the Sociable aspect out of the cycle for some of it. The wind at our backs on the way home was nice.
T2 again not quick with Stephen setting off by car to do Aqua running, Kyle and I started off on the run. Kyle ran to Katie Reilly’s where the goodie bag was stashed not bad for a man who trained Friday and is looking to do only sprints this Summer. He headed back from there, I continued to Super Quinn and home to splash.
All times and routes available on Garmine.

Re: Training Half-Iron
Well Lads.
Are we set for the 11th or is it the 19th of June for round two. I kinda have to secure dates so
my gilfriend can celebrate her Birthday in an allocated date provided and its cutting it close.
A swift response would be nice.
Kind Regards,
